DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY AND PETROCHEMISTRY

History:

On September 4, 1980, the Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology was opened at Karaganda State University. The department trained specialists in nature conservation and comprehensive research of ecological balance disorders and restoration. The Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology owes its success primarily to the highly qualified teaching staff, namely: Professor V.P. Zhuravlev, associate professors R.G. Omarova (first Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry), V.P. Volkova, M.I. Zhambekov, A.A. Tsitsura and senior lecturers I.V. Weissenberg, E.F. Demisheva. and Ermekov O.M.
The first head of the department was V.P. Zhuravlev, who had been dealing with the problem of protecting the air basin for more than 20 years. Later, the department was headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor A.A. Tsitsura. The scientific direction headed by Tsitsura A.A. is related to the heterocoagulation of dust aerosols with dispersed liquids.
From 1991 to 2006, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology, A.D. Kagarlitsky, a prominent scientist in the field of organic chemistry and catalysis, worked at the Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology.

In the 90s, the Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology was headed by Ph.D. Professor M.I. Zhambekov, a specialist in the field of chemistry of arsenic and compounds. Under his leadership, a new specialty "Applied Ecology" was opened. The first graduation of students of this specialty took place in 2001.
In October 2003, the department was renamed the Department of Chemical Technology and Petrochemistry.
Since 2000, the department has been headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor M.I. Baikenov, who is a leading specialist in the field of petrochemistry and coal chemistry.

In recent years, 5 PhD theses and 3 PhD theses have been defended: Absat Z.B., Khalikova Z.S., Kasymova Sh., Musina G.N., Satybaldin A.Zh., Gudun K., Akhmetkarimova Zh. and Tusipkhan A.

Students:

Students from different regions of Kazakhstan, as well as from the Republic of Uzbekistan, the People's Republic of China and the Mongolian People's Republic study at the Department of Chemical Technology and Petrochemistry.
The demand for the department's programs is evidenced by the growth of the student body, which has increased more than 3 times in recent years. Graduates of the 6B07101 "Chemical Technology of inorganic Substances" program work at large enterprises: Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, NC Kazmunaygas JSC, Shubarkol Komir JSC and Gidromed JSC.
Employment opportunities:
The graduate employment rate is 100%.
