MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC HELD AT BUKETOV UNIVERSITY

On September 14, 2026, Karaganda National Research University named after Academician Ye.A. Buketov was visited by Mr. Lubomír Rehák, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As part of the visit, the Ambassador held a meeting with the university’s leadership. The meeting was attended by:
Madina Umurkulova — Acting Chairman of the Board – Rector;
Erbol Sarmurzin — Member of the Board, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development;
Gulnar Baigozhina — Head of the Rector’s Office.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for developing cooperation between the Embassy of the Slovak Republic and Buketov University, as well as new opportunities for expanding partnership relations.
The university already has strong academic ties with Slovak higher education institutions. Cooperation agreements are in place with Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Pan-European University, the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, and Bratislava University of Economics and Business.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation with Matej Bel University. In June 2026, a delegation from Buketov University took part in a business forum of companies and enterprises from the Karaganda Region and the Banská Bystrica Region, held in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. On June 23, 2026, a cooperation agreement was signed between the two universities.
The university is also currently working to establish partnership relations with Technical University in Zvolen.
Among the promising areas of cooperation are inviting Slovak specialists to conduct guest lectures, academic supervision of master’s and PhD students, developing student academic mobility, and implementing joint research and educational projects.
Particular attention during the meeting was given to cooperation between the university and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Slovak Republic, as well as prospects for developing cooperation with representatives of the Banská Bystrica Region in the fields of education, science, and other areas.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening partnership relations, expanding academic contacts, and implementing new joint initiatives.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged commemorative gifts and took a joint photograph.
