The Research Library of Karaganda National Research University named after Academician E.A. Buketov has received a valuable edition — the book “THE KAZAKH SCHOOL OF JUSTICE: FROM MAIKY TO ABAY”, dedicated to the origins and evolution of the legal culture of the Great Steppe.

WHAT IS THE BOOK ABOUT?

The origins of steppe democracy. The book addresses fundamental historical questions: did freedom of speech, democracy and judicial authority exist in the ancient Kazakh steppe? The work demonstrates that Kazakh society had a developed legal system based on the principles of openness and justice.

An analysis of traditional law. Drawing on the works of Shoqan Walikhanov, historical sources and archival documents, the author examines the institution of biys as a unique phenomenon of nomadic civilization that remained viable and influential for centuries.

Great figures in the history of justice. The book brings to life the names of outstanding steppe thinkers and orators, including Maiky Bi, Asan Kaigy, Zhirenshe Sheshen, Tole Bi, Kazybek Bi, Aiteke Bi, Anet Bi, Shorman Bi and many other representatives of the legal and intellectual tradition of their time.

Continuity of generations. The publication traces the development of Kazakh legal thought from ancient times through the era of the great Abay to the modern judicial system.
