SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION: ARCHAEOLOGY OF KAZAKHSTAN AND CHINA

At the Saryarka Archaeological Institute of Karaganda Research University named after Academician E.A. Buketov, PhD doctoral student Shi Handa, a representative of the Center for Research and Cooperation in Silk Road Archaeology at Northwest University (Xi’an, China), completed a research internship from May 20 to August 20, 2026.

During the internship, Shi Handa studied specialized academic literature on the archaeology of the Bronze Age in Central Kazakhstan and also participated in an archaeological expedition organized by Karaganda University, which conducted research in the Shet District of the Karaganda Region.

Particular attention was given to the study of the ceramic collection and archaeological artifacts preserved in the collections of the Saryarka Archaeological Institute. This work enabled the researcher to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s archaeological heritage and broaden opportunities for joint scientific research.

Following the research internship, collaborative work was carried out to prepare a scientific publication focusing on the results of the research and the prospects for further international scientific cooperation.

The internship marked an important step in strengthening academic and scientific ties between Kazakhstan and China, as well as in advancing international cooperation in archaeology and the study of the historical and cultural heritage of Central Asia.
