History:
The Department of Philosophy and Theory of Culture is one of the leading departments of the University. It was formed on the basis of the Department of Philosophy and Political Economy of the Karaganda Pedagogical Institute in 1968. The department was headed by Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Professor Saginova Mariam Saginovna, the first female philosopher in Kazakhstan who defended her PhD thesis. For 20 years, starting in 1972, the department was headed by Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Klescheva Raisa Akhmetovna, who made a huge contribution to the formation of the scientific potential of the department.

The department employs 29 teachers, among them doctors and candidates of philosophical sciences, doctors of philosophy (PhD), masters of humanities. Among the teaching staff of the department are holders of the title “Honored Worker of Karaganda University named after. E.A. Buketov" (Aitbaev O.A., Kolumbaev B.E., Baturin V.S., Zharmakina F.M., Karipbaev B.I., Arinova O.T.), republican grant "Best University Teacher" (Karipbaev B. .I.), badges “Honored Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “Excellence in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and “For Merit in the Development of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (Kolumbaev B.E., Karipbaev B.I.), medals of the Association of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after. Profiles of the teaching staff are presented in the scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science, ORCID, etc. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the faculty of the department published 2 monographs (Kolumbaev B.E., Karipbaev B.I.), 1 textbook recommended by the EMA REMA (B.I. Karipbaev), 1 educational and methodological manual (M.T. Uksukbaeva), 4 articles in journals with an impact factor based on Scopus (as part of a team of authors), 33 articles in journals recommended by CQAES MSHE KR. Teachers of the department constantly improve their qualifications by completing scientific internships and qualification courses, participating in conferences and seminars, studying on international educational platforms (Coursera) and in the postdoctoral program, as well as attending guest lectures by lecturers from leading foreign scientific organizations and higher education institutions. For the 2022-2023 academic year, 50 certificates were received.
The Department of Philosophy and Theory of Culture was the base university for organizing and conducting the Republican Subject Olympiad and the Republican Competition of Research Works of Students of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the educational program “Philosophy”.
Students:
The contingent of students for the 2023-2024 academic year is 130 people, who are representatives of a number of regions of Kazakhstan (South Kazakhstan region, West Kazakhstan region, East Kazakhstan region, Kostanay region, Akmola region, Pavlodar region) and other states (Uzbekistan, Mongolia) . 97% of students study on the basis of a state educational grant. Among the students of the department are holders of scholarships from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, personal scholarships, winners and prize-winners of university, republican and international competitions and olympiads. Students of OP 6B02201 - Philosophy within the framework of outgoing, external mobility are trained at the Bashkir State University (RF, 2022-2023 academic year), University of Naples L'Orientale (Italy, 2023-2024 academic year).
Employment:
Graduates of the department are in demand in the labor market. The average employment rate for undergraduate educational programs is 85%, for master’s and doctoral educational programs – 100%.
