History

The Department of Methods of Teaching Mathematics and Informatics was established in 1972. At the origins of the department were experienced educators and methodologists: Senior Lecturer Mirau Boris Eduardovich (Head of the Department from 1952 to 1972), Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Baimurzin Seitkali Baimurzinovich (Head of the Department from 1972 to 1976), and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Kostrikhina Nina Petrovna (Head of the Department from 1976 to 1993). At different times, the department was headed by Associate Professor Bertiskanowa Kamshat Tursunovna, Associate Professor Syzdykova Nazym Kosarbekovna, and PhD, Associate Professor Beisenova Danagul Rymbaevna, who served as Head of the Department from 2021 to 2025. Since 1994, the department has been teaching mathematics, higher mathematics, and informatics. Since 2004, the department has been training bachelor’s degree students under the educational program 5B010900 – Mathematics, and since 2018 under the educational program 5B012700 – Mathematics and Informatics. Graduates of the department have the opportunity to continue their studies in a master’s degree program in 6M010900 – Mathematics. Students The department’s educational programs are in high demand. Over a three-year period, the number of students enrolled in the department’s programs was as follows: • 2018–2019 academic year — 206 students; • 2019–2020 academic year — 223 students; • 2020–2021 academic year — 238 students.The main student population consists of graduates from the Karaganda region (the cities of Balkhash, Temirtau, and Zhezkazgan), as well as from the South Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, and Pavlodar regions, including participants of the “Serpin – 2050” program. The department also educates international students from Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Azerbaijan. Students of the department have won prestigious scholarships and prize places in subject Olympiads: • Student D. Zhumagul was awarded the First President’s Scholarship twice (2019, 2020); • Student A. Torgayeva received the Mustafin Award; • Students M. Mergenbay, B. Ryskul, and D. Zhumagul won 3rd place in the team competition at the Republican Mathematics Olympiad; • Second-year student A. Akhmetshin was awarded a 1st degree diploma (Penza) and a 3rd degree diploma (Almaty) for participation in scientific project competitions; • Third-year students N. Aman, E. Otesh, and A. Torgayeva won 1st degree diplomas at the “Ustaz tilegi” competition organized by the Republican Scientific and Methodological Center; • Student A. Akhmetshin won 1st place at the Republican Olympiad in Higher Mathematics in 2021; • Student Abitaev Adilsamat won 1st place in the individual competition at the XV Republican Student Subject Olympiad in the group of educational programs “B009 – Training of Mathematics Teachers” in 2023; • Student Abitaev Adilsamat won 3rd place at the Republican Student Subject Olympiad under the educational program “6B05401 – Mathematics” in 2023. Faculty members and students actively participate in internal and external academic mobility programs and have studied at universities in Romania, the USA, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Faculty The department employs 32 faculty members, including 4 Candidates of Sciences, 6 Associate Professors, 1 PhD holder, and 21 Masters. Among the department’s staff are recipients of the I. Altynsarin Medal, two holders of the national title “Best University Teacher of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” three recipients of the T. G. Mustafin Award, one holder of the badge “For Contribution to the Development of Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” and five faculty members awarded Certificates of Honor from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Accreditation and Leadership The department’s educational programs have received national accreditation from the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and hold high positions in national rankings: • 5B010900 – Mathematics: 2nd place in the IAQA ranking, 8th place in the Atameken ranking; • 5B012700 – Mathematics and Informatics: 1st place in the IAQA ranking; • In the 2024–2025 academic year, the educational program 6B01502 – Mathematics and Informatics ranked 2nd in the Atameken ranking; • In the 2025–2026 academic year, the educational program 6B01502.1 – Mathematics and Physics ranked 2nd in the Atameken ranking. Employment Graduates of the department work in schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, and other educational institutions across Kazakhstan. Some graduates are employed at Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools in Karaganda. The graduate employment rate reaches 98–99%. Graduates continue their studies in master’s and doctoral programs at Karaganda University, L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the MSU branch, and other universities in Kazakhstan. Alumni Many alumni of the department have received awards and scholarships. N. Gulmanov, a second-year doctoral student, received the title “Best Teacher of 2019.” E. V. Nipruk, while working at the Nurmakov Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics, was awarded the nationally significant “Shapagat” Medal in 2019 for her contribution to the development of education, received a 1st degree diploma at the Republican Competition of Mathematics Teachers, was awarded a Certificate of Honor by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2017, and became a participant in the “100 New Faces” project. Partners The department cooperates with Tomsk State University (Tomsk, Russia), Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (Tomsk, Russia), and L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Astana, Kazakhstan). Memorandums of cooperation have been signed with schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums of Karaganda. Students of the department have the opportunity to complete teaching internships in all regions of Kazakhstan.
