History:
The Department ensures continuity and consistency in specialist training through the Bachelor’s–Master’s–Doctoral system and implements joint educational programs with foreign partner universities, including Shihezi University (China), Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University (Russia), Atatürk University (Türkiye), Kastamonu University (Türkiye), and Nizami Uzbekistan National Pedagogical University (Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent).
The Department’s research interests include issues of multilingual and foreign language education, theoretical and applied aspects of linguodidactics, early foreign language teaching technologies, intercultural communication, and others.
The Department provides opportunities for academic mobility and international cooperation programs. Academic mobility is a key component of the University’s international cooperation strategy and plays a significant role in its integration into the global academic and research space. Incoming and outgoing academic mobility programs for students and faculty members are actively implemented at the University, aimed at expanding international partnerships, exchanging experience, and improving the quality of education.
Within outgoing academic mobility programs, students have the opportunity to study at foreign and domestic partner universities for one academic period. Foreign citizens may study at our University under incoming mobility programs.
Faculty members participate in academic mobility programs as visiting lecturers and participants in academic visits. Each year, the University hosts representatives of leading universities from Belarus, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, the United States, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and other countries.
Master’s students of the Department complete internships on a parity basis at research institutes and universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Doctoral students undertake internships at the same higher education institutions where their academic supervisors are affiliated.
In accordance with the Memorandum between Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye.A. Buketov and Nizami Uzbekistan National Pedagogical University (Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent), within the framework of the dual-degree educational program (3+1), student admissions to the educational program 6B01705 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages were carried out in 2023 and 2024.
On October 13, 2023, within the framework of the “University–School” program, a new branch was opened at the Municipal State Institution “Secondary School No. 15” of Karaganda. The branch serves as a center for organizing students’ practical and educational activities and was established to develop the professional skills of future foreign language teachers. The activities of the Department’s branches at Secondary School No. 15 and Gymnasium No. 97 of Karaganda are carried out in accordance with the Regulations on the Branch of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Foreign Language Training of Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye.A. Buketov, the Branch Work Plan for the 2025–2026 academic year, and represent an important form of university–school cooperation within the “School–University” partnership project. Students of the Department complete their industrial (pedagogical) practice in educational institutions of Karaganda city and the region.
Within the framework of a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement between the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye.A. Buketov and the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, an American Academic Writing Center has been established on a long-term basis.
Under a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement between the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye.A. Buketov and Kastamonu University (Türkiye), a branch of the Kastamonu University TOMER Center operates at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The Center provides opportunities to obtain an international Turkish language certificate, facilitating students’ admission to Turkish universities for further studies.
To implement the project “Scientific and Methodological Foundations for Professional Foreign Language Training in the Context of Convergence of Formal and Non-Formal Higher Education”, cooperation agreements are in effect with the European University of Lefke (effective from September 1, 2023) and with Atatürk University, Türkiye (effective since 2023).
To implement the international project “Non-Formal Foreign Language Education in the Context of Pedagogical and Sociocultural Innovations: Prospects and Practices”, a cooperation agreement has been concluded with Nizami Uzbekistan National Pedagogical University (effective since 2024).
Within the framework of research projects funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, work is underway to organize guest lectures, which have become a unique opportunity for Master’s students, doctoral students, and faculty members. In 2025, guest lectures were delivered by Ahmet Rıfat Kayiş, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance and Coordinator of the International Students Office at Kastamonu University (Türkiye); Mustafa Öztürk Akcaoğlu, PhD, Vice Rector for Curriculum and International Relations at Kastamonu University, Associate Professor and Editor of the Kastamonu Educational Journal (TR DİZİN) (Türkiye); and Servet Çelik, Professor at Trabzon University (Türkiye).
During the 2023–2024 academic year, a Fulbright Program scholar, English language teaching assistant Spencer Harrison from the U.S. Embassy, worked at the Faculty.
The Faculty of Foreign Languages conducts career guidance activities on an ongoing basis, aimed at informing school students and prospective applicants about educational opportunities and career prospects for graduates.
As part of career guidance initiatives, meetings with students of general education institutions, open days, presentations of the Faculty’s educational programs, as well as individual and group consultations on admission issues are organized.
