About the department

Welcome to the Department of Foreign Philology!

The Department of Foreign Philology is the graduating department of the Karaganda National Research University named after academician Ye.A. Buketov. The department trains specialists in the field of language and literature on the educational programs of Bachelor's degree 6B02303 – «Foreign Philology (English)», 6B02303.1 – «Foreign Philology (Chinese)» and Master's degree 7M02301 – «Foreign Philology».
The training is carried out in two trajectories: literary studies and linguistics.
Students study the following disciplines:
- in the Bachelor's degree: «Business Foreign Language», «Literature of the Studied Language», «Literary Editing», «Text linguistic analysis», «Stylistics», «Philological Analysis of  Literary Text», etc.;
- in the Master's degree: «Professional Foreign Language», «Academic Scientific Writing», «Innovation in Linguistics and Literature Studies», «Modern methodology of foreign philological studies», «Value Dominants of Modern English Literature», etc.
To students of other educational programs of the faculty, the teaching staff of the department teaches: «Fundamentals of The Theory of The Studied Language», «Literature of the Country of the Studied Language», «Theory and Practice of Intercultural Communications», «Second Foreign Language (Chinese)».
European and Oriental languages are taught at the faculty as the main and second foreign languages.  Studying a second foreign language is mandatory and begins in the second year.  The study of the second foreign language is compulsory and starts in the second year. The choice of language is based on students' wishes.
Students actively participate in academic mobility programs: Anshan Pedagogical University, Shenyang Pedagogical University, Shihezi University (People's Republic of China), Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Tomsk State Pedagogical University (Russian Federation), Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland), Babes-Bolyai University (Romania), etc.To students of other educational programs of the faculty, the teaching staff of the department teaches: «Fundamentals of The Theory of The Studied Language», «Literature of the Country of the Studied Language», «Theory and Practice of Intercultural Communications», «Second Foreign Language (Chinese)».

The teachers of the department are specialists who have great experience of working not only in our country but also abroad. Many of them have been trained in foreign universities. The department includes the holders of the title «The best teacher of the university», Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Isina G.I., Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor Kakzhanova F.A., a graduate of the scholarship «Bolashak» Omarova A.M.
The department is engaged in cognitive and functional-pragmatic research of language in the field of professional communication. Under the supervision of Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Isina G.I., Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Buketova N.I., Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor Kakzhanova F.A., PhD Zhuman A.K., the department implements research projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as within the framework of an intra-university grant.
In 2024, senior lecturer of the department Omarova A.M. became the recipient of an educational grant from the Hong Kong Baptist University for the Translation Studies doctoral program.
In the direction 7M02301 "Foreign Philology" the department implements a joint educational program with the Nizami Uzbek National Pedagogical University (Uzbekistan).
The department organizes guest lectures and trainings by foreign professors (Ponomareva A.V., UCL University, London, Literary theory / Translation theory ; Dr. Rab Nawaz Lodhi, University of Central Punjab, Pakistan, Qualitative research design).
Graduates of the department successfully work in educational and humanitarian institutions, diplomatic departments, and commercial firms, in the sphere of translation services, mass-media, advertising, editorial, and publishing activities as philologists, editors, proofreaders, copywriters, applying their knowledge of English and Chinese languages in practice.
Every year, the department's teachers publish the results of their research in highly rated scientific journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases (Isina G.I., Kakhzhanova F.A., Kitibayeva A.K., Buketova N.I., Zhuman A.Q., Palina A.A., Beisembayeva A.U., Mukanova D.E., Adamidi A.D.). In addition, the department's lecturers publish in scientific journals recommended by SHEQAC. The department's teaching staff systematically develops monographs and teaching aids for the disciplines they teach.It should be noted that as part of their activities, the department's teachers regularly attend advanced training courses conducted by foreign lecturers, which contributes to raising the level of professional competence and further developing international scientific cooperation. As part of this cooperation, lecturers from KarNRU, ChSPU, NSPU, and SamSIFL organise and conduct international Olympiads and research competitions.
Our students also have the opportunity to receive free training on the international educational platforms Huawei and Coursera.
The department's lecturers also organise and conduct various scientific and educational events aimed at the comprehensive development of our students and increasing their competitiveness in the labour market among young professionals.
