The Professor T.G. Mustafin Department of Modern and Classical Mathematics was established in 2026 through the merger of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Differential Equations and the Department of Algebra, Mathematical Logic and Geometry. The Department continues the research and educational traditions of the University's established mathematical schools, whose development dates back to the 1960s and 1970s. The Department offers the 6B05401 – Mathematics Bachelor's program, the 7M05401 – Mathematics Master's program, and the 8D05401 – Mathematics Doctoral program. It also hosts the Dissertation Council for the 8D05401 – Mathematics doctoral program, which considers doctoral dissertations and conducts defenses for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The Department's main research areas include mathematical analysis, function theory and functional analysis, differential and integral equations, mathematical physics, algebra, mathematical logic, model theory, and geometry. The Department brings together classical and modern areas of mathematical research while maintaining the continuity of the University's established research schools.
